Adopt a Dachshund (short coat)

I’m Red.  If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle, quiet, older fella, who enjoys a slower pace of life, then I’m your pup.  I was rescued from a dog sanctuary in Texas before Hurricane Harvey hit Texas to allow for dogs displaced by the hurricane.  You need to know that I have no teeth and I’m almost completely blind and deaf.  Even though I don’t have any teeth I really enjoy eating. My foster mom say I’m 99% housetrained.  When I’m outside, I need time to sniff and find the perfect spot “to go”, so please be patient with me.  I like to meander around the yard sniffing, and will lie in the sun to relax.  Because I am blind I need a forever home with no steps or a forever family that will gate off steps and stairs so I don’t fall and injure myself. I like to sleep on a soft bed, or rest on the couch with you. I love being stroked gently and my ears rubbed.  My foster mom has learned to gently touch my back before she picks me up so that I’m not startled when approached.  I am a mellow, low maintenance boy, and like to relax in a nice dog bed or on the couch with my human. I need a quiet house with a soft dog bed and people who like down time with me on the couch! I definitely like a slower pace of life. 

Note: Because of Red's age (14+) and his special needs (blind and deaf) he is looking for a forever family within 75 miles of the Metropolitan Washington, DC area to make his transport to his forever home easier for him.

Adoption  Fee:  $150.00 + $45.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law).

If you see a furbaby that is a match for your family, don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation.
